quantum winds new production model Model 5 Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine

QUANTUM WIND POWER CORP. unveiled the look of its new production Model 5 Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT) developed in British Columbia, Canada. The 5 meter diameter turbine has been designed and prototyped and is in the testing phase of it's development producing up to 5 kW in 22 mph (10 m/s) wind.

The unit utilizes a low speed direct drive permanent magnet generator designed by TorsionTec, and comes complete with a 6000 Watt Grid-Tie solar ready net-metering inverter, which can also be used in off grid applications.

Production model artistically designed for Quantum Wind by Steve Orzel ohm industrial designers. The Model 5 Freedom Series wind turbine was developed for the agricultural and industrial markets, as well as the larger residential homes. This turbine showcase’s new low speed direct drive solar ready technology and can be used in on or off grid applications and is designed to net meter.

The Model 5 HAWT will complete its testing, final revisions, certifications and enter manufacturing in British Columbia.

Several places are being evaluated for long term testing including Squamish BC and Whistler BC. The majority of the systems testing will be done in an undisclosed test site in the Okanagan with a permanent wind test site planned for public viewing in 2008.

Quantum Wind has a Model 50 Freedom Series Industrial Wind Turbine presently in development, using the same low speed direct drive solar ready technology. A larger turbine is being considered for development. A Total of 3 turbines are to be developed in the Freedom Series, to target different markets.
